COMMUNITY SERVICE GROUP CONFERENCE

On Tuesday 2nd November this year in Telford, UNISON will hold its first Conference for members working in the voluntary sector, housing associations, community groups and social enterprises.

The Community Service Group was set up last year to give those members a stronger voice within the union, setting their own policies and direction with regard to the issues that affect them in their working lives. The group's first Conference is a huge opportunity for those members to have their say.

Any UNISON branch with members in the Community Service Group can send delegates - and that includes Health and Local Government branches. Of course, the delegates have to be members of Community, working in the voluntary sector, housing associations, and so on.

Conference delegates are elected by branches, so if you're interested in attending, please speak to your branch as soon as possible! The deadline for registration is 13th August.

Also, branches and regions should consider submitting motions for the Conference. This is your chance to help shape the union's campaigns in the voluntary sector and housing associations. The deadline for motions is 13th July.

To view the Conference Bulletin, including all the forms you need and lots more information, please click here: http://www.unison.org.uk/conference/community.asp

This conference is an ideal opportunity for members to network, discuss issues that are relevant to them as well as, via motions, direct the future of their Community Service Group & its agenda so please enable your Community members to have a voice by doing all that you can to encourage them to attend their conference

Eastern Region UNISON Community and Voluntary members work for large and very small employers all over the Region. Members can be in the Health Service or Local Government, depending on the type of work that they do.

Eastern Region has a Community and Vountary steering group which has worked for several years to try to develop better organisation in the C&V Sector.

At UNISONs National Delegates Conference 2009 the decision was made to set up a seperate Community Service Group to bring together representation for C&V members at regional and national level. All our members to the new Community Service Group have been mapped and linked, but for now they will stay in their current branches.

The new group will include members working for Housing Associations.

Next steps on this will be happening after Christmas.

Cambridgeshire and Herts County branches shared a project worker until September 09. This enabled new recognition agreements, new stewards' networks and an increase in membership.

Both branches are now funding project workers to organise and support  this group of members.

UNISON has put together series of guides to the role and benefits of trade unions in community and voluntary sector to help you strengthen your organisation and improve working conditions. Click here for more information from our national website
