‘More bang for the public buck: A guide to using procurement to achieve community benefits’
Details about APSE’s latest research ‘More bang for the public buck: A guide to using procurement to achieve community benefits’.
This research is timely as the public sector struggles to balance future budgets whilst trying to avoid any adverse impact on local economies. APSE’s earlier research exploring the economic footprint of public spending demonstrated that for every £1 spent there is a £1.64 return to the local economy. That figure was based on just 30% of local council spending ‘going local’.
· Building local economic, social and environmental benefits into council contracts could yield £2 for every £1 spent, according to the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) following its latest research.
· Community benefits is not just about the money. By looking at how we procure goods using some of the £175 billion spent on public procurement in the UK we can start to have a real impact on employment, the environment and the well being of local communities.
· Using community benefits will allow support to SMEs and enhance local skills, training and employment opportunities
· The guide will help local authorities including police and fire authorities overcome the barriers and perceived barriers of procurement regulations and help you to deliver more for your communities.
‘More bang for the public buck: A guide to using procurement to achieve community benefits’ is priced at just £20 for APSE members (£40 for non members) and is a very readable A4 full colour publication of 52 pages full of interesting findings from the research as well as good practice hints and tips and case study authorities. When the public sector is facing unprecedented challenges can you afford not to get more bang for the public buck?
