School Dinner Lady Sacked!

Carol Hill , the school dinner lady who was sacked for telling parents their child had been bullied and tied up in the playground, lost her appeal on Friday 27th November. UNISON's Essex County branch secretary Mick Mahoney supported her in the appeal.

Carol said:

"I am bitterly disappointed with the panel's decision today. I have only ever had the welfare of the children and the school at heart and all I want to do is get my job back.

It has been very difficult for me, and my family. I have worked at the school for 7 years and love every minute of it. Living so close to the school and hearing the children playing is heartbreaking.

I will be discussing the possibility of taking my case further with my union.

I want to thank all the parents and the public for their fantastic support - I have been overwhelmed by all the messages of goodwill. I would also like to thank my union, UNISON for all their help and advice. It is knowing that I have so many people behind me that makes me strong enough to go on."

Carol's case has attracted widespread media coverage with many journalists expressing the public outrage at Carol's treatment.  See GMTV video clip.
