SEEC - Dec 2009

South East Essex College

Message on behalf of Jan Hodges - 10/12/09

Following some months of discussion and consultation, at the meeting of the Corporation Board on Monday evening, members of the governing body of South East Essex College considered the request for union recognition on behalf of  UCU for academic staff, Unison for support staff and ACM for management staff. After careful consideration it was agreed that South East Essex College would agree recognition for collective bargaining for all three of the trade unions.

We believe that this will build on the considerable strengths of JSSM and, by voluntarily agreeing to this agreement, we can deliver a commitment from all sides to develop a strong and positive long term relationship which will assist the merged College as we go forward in its drive to provide outstanding learning opportunities for all.

SEEC Recruitment Day

The local government team were invited to a staff development and training day for the 400+ support staff who are employed at South East Essex College in Southend.  A stall was set up and a number of new members and activists were recruited.  We also walked around the building distributing application forms and unison pens.  UNISON are recruting on the back of the possible merger of the SEEC with both Basildon and Thurrock colleges.
