HCC No pay increase 21/1/10
The National Joint Council for local government workers confirmed it was unable to offer any increase in pay for 2010/11 in recognition of the extremely tight financial situation facing councils across the country.
This is in response to a claim submitted in October 2009 by the trade unions UNISON, GMB and UNITE for a proposed pay increase of 2.5%, or £500 a year (whichever is greater), for all local government workers. Keep an eye on the Connect homepage for further updates
Unisons response to this should be that members of the Union on low pay should be given an above inflation pay rise and every other member should be give a lower pay rise according to their rate of pay.
If the local government did not waste money on things such as consultants fees which has increased greatly in recent years, out sourcing which is not always successful for example the trains I know that’s not local government where they had to bail them out And its Directors for example Caroline Tapster who earns more money than the Priminister Gordon Brown which is absurd. Also training where most of the time staff do not turn up then their would be plenty of money for pay increases. Why should people on low pay loose out the question is why is their an extremely tight financial situation facing councils across the country AND THE ANSWER IS THAT IT IS NOT OUR FAULT IT’S THE BANKERS AND BAD MANAGEMENT FROM TORY COUNCILS. Yes we do agree now that we do have to respond to the financial situation however the response should be to limit the damage it could do to services and people on low pay and lastly they should stop panicing otherwise we will be straight into another recession which will take longer to get out of. Yes we are in debt however we need to plan ahead and get out of it slowly.
