.  Jennie Walton aged 70, retired on 31st December 2009

Jennie worked for the West Suffolk Hospital for just over 40 years as a housekeeper.  She spent the last 20 years on the Maternity Ward.  Jennie has always been very supportive of the union and was a member the Bury St Edmunds & District Health Branch of NUPE / UNISON for all that time.

Recruitment

The branch held two recruitment events, one at the West Suffolk Hspital and also at NHS Supply Chain depot in Bury St.Edmunds.

We had help on the days from the regional office - Heather Cripps, Local Organiser, retired member - Peggy Brame, Branch Officer - Jan Lavender,  and Simon Clarke from Thompsons Solicitors who was on hand to give information about legal entitlements that all members receive on joining.

These events were held to launch the Lealta Discount Cards that the branch felt would aid us in the recruitment of members into UNISON, and also we felt that this woud be a reward for existing members who often get left out.

These events proved very sucsessful, recruiting several new members and giving the branch an opportunity to promote UNISON at work.
