Keep the NHS working

On Valentine’s Day, UNISON, the UK’s largest union urgied the government not to break our hearts by breaking our NHS.

To highlight the dangers in the controversial Health and Social Care bill, the Eastern Region UNISON members made their heartfelt plea in a photo opportunity. Members wearing Cameron and Clegg masks stood either side breaking a heart with the NHS written on it in two.

Their UNISON colleagues in London will also take their hearts to Downing Street on Valentines’ Day, to show Cameron and Clegg the depth of feeling on the issue.

Glyn Hawker, Regional Secretary, said:

"This Valentine’s Day UNISON is calling on the Tory-led coalition not to break our heart by breaking our NHS. The NHS is a much loved institution which we are all rightly proud of. But the Government appears determined to ignore the voices of NHS professionals, patients and even – it seems – its own ministers who all say that it must drop the Health and Social Care Bill.

"In opposition, David Cameron told us that the NHS was safe in the Tories’ hands but this bill shows us the truth. It is flawed and dangerous and we know that patients and health workers will pay the price.

"It isn’t too late for Cameron and Clegg to listen to all those who love the NHS and drop the Bill "
