Stop the BNP

Stop the BNP

National Day of action.

Unison’s campaign against the British National Party is organised at both a National, Regional and local level. In 2009 trade union activists in the Eastern Region delivered over 10,000 leaflets to members in the run up to the local elections and held stalls in major towns. For more information on the National campaign go check our national website: www.unison.org.uk

We work closely with local groups who support UNISON's Aims and Objectives and are aiming to continue this important work in the run up to the general election. UNISON’s 'Million Voices' campaign is setting out our agenda for public services. However the work is not just about the election, it is also about dispelling the lies and myths that the BNP spread about the public services.

' Trade Union Friday' took place on Friday 15th May 2009. This was a joint campaign between UNISON and Searchlight's Hope not Hate campaign.  It was a major success and saw activist leafleting and engaging trade union members on their way to work outside of all the major train stations in the Eastern Region.

2010 is an important year for our members in public services; the threats to jobs and front line services will be at the fore front of the election campaign. We must do all that we can to make sure that our members and their families vote in the forthcoming general election, as a low turn out benefits far right organisations and may see the return of a BNP member of Parliament- we say:  'Not in our Name!'

How can you help? We need people to deliver leaflets and make contact with local organisations so that together we can make a real difference.

If you would like to be involved in this year's campaign, please contact us via your local branch.

One member of UNISON staff commented:

"Personally, the highlight of our last campaign was 'Trade Union Friday'. I was leafleting in the pouring rain outside the train station, the umbrella had broken due to gale force winds and one of our black members came up to me and said’ I’m so proud of you for standing up for me, thank you for being there’"

Join us its hard work but can we make a difference – yes we can!
