UNISON Eastern Region LGBT members have the opportunity to become involved in the Regional LGBT SOG. The SOG is a strategic group which oversees UNISON LGBT work in this region for example UNISON's involvement at Pride events, working with and supporting other LGBT organisations in the region, advising Branches about LGBT work and organising around LGBT work at a local level.
Anyone who self-identifies as LGB or T and is a UNISON member within the Eastern Region can sign up to membership of the SOG via the national UNISON website. Members details are then forwarded, in confidence, to the Regional Organiser who facilitates the Eastern Region LGBT SOG. Members who do sign up this way are assured to receive regular communication from the Regional LGBT SOG, learn more about the work of the SOG along with opportunities to get actively involved in the groups work.
Currently the LGBT SOG is looking at the possibility of moving to a Committee structure to enhance the way it works. This will be an important agenda item at the SOG's annual general meeting in December 2010 [please note change of AGM date] and members ideas and contributions with regard to this are appreciated.
