UNISON ROLE – Service Conditions / Convenor
ROLE OVERVIEW - Larger branches should adopt a sub-structure based on bargaining units (smaller employers, the departments of a large employer) or large workplaces. A convenor should be elected to lead branch organisation at that level.
MAIN DUTIES
• To coordinate and lead the work of the team of UNISON representatives at the section or unit level within the degree of autonomy determined by the branch rules
• To develop branch organisation and recruitment at the section or unit level
• To act as a key negotiator with the employer
• To support stewards and other representatives in advising and representing members
• Account to the section or unit representatives’ group and to the branch committee
• Provide regular articles, updates and news bulletins to the membership via the Publicity and Communications Officer
