Dragons Den - Cambridge Professional Development Centre

A very successful event was held at the Cambridge Professional Development Centre on Monday 20th July.  6 branches from around the region attended all bidding for funds from the regional pool to expand their coffers - ranging from requests for recruitment material to camera/s mobile phones for reps.

5 Dragons were in the chair.  From National, John Cole Head of Contracts & Property; Sortiros Lozirou Regional & Branch Development Officer from the all important Finance department; Lucille Thirlby, Senior National Officer and Dave Johnson, Senior National Officer for Business & Environment.  And finally our very own Paul Farley, Regional Convenor.

John Cole said  “As my role only normally lets me get involved in Branch property matters I found it very interesting to get an insight in to some of the issues and problems Branches face, particularly around recruitment and organising. I was very impressed with all the presentations and the teams demonstrated a lot of thought and creativity to produce interesting solutions.”

Dave Johnson said: “I thought it was an excellent event and I am glad the feedback was positive. Hopefully the delegates who attended will network with other branches and encourage them to support events like this. Events like this promote the idea that organising is important but can be fun and rewarding.”

Lucille Thirlby said “it was a pleasure and very interesting for me as I lead on the National LG recruitment and organising strategy.”

Taking part from the branches were:

Mark Broughton & Becky Jefcoate from Breckland District Council; Margaret Davis from Essex Police; Helen Muddock from Suffolk County; Carol Wood from Luton BC & Graham Kendall of Bury St Edmunds & District Health who all bravely attended on their own; Essex County came in with a strong delegation of 4 including Tracey Sparkes and Jane Barnes.
