Information Advice and Guidance NVQ

Unison, in partnership with Huntingdon Regional College and Unionlearn, have developed a pilot programme for the continued professional development of the Unison Eastern Region's Union Learning Reps in the field of Information, Advice and Guidance - IAG, giving them an opportunity to enhance their career prospects, or even to give them an opportunity to change their career pathway.  Included in this Pilot will be the training of Assessors to enable the pilot to be rolled out within the Region.

This pilot will allow the Unison Learner Reps to further their training in Information, Advice and Guidance up to IAG NVQ Level 3 standard. This will enable the Unison ULRs to become Information, Advice and Guidance Prctitioners. Giving them the full IAG Qualification allowing the ULRs to undertake full IAG sessions with members.

Pilot Area

Cambridgeshire Health Branch, Norfolk County Branch and Stedmundsbury Borough Council Branch were selected to pilot the development of the IAG NVQ Level 3 qualification. 13 candidates were recruited to undertake the IAG NVQ, including 2 candidates from the HR dept based at Addenbrookes Hosp, where the Cambridgeshire Health Branch Union Office is located. The candidates started their IAG NVQ training at the beginning of December 2009, after a number of weeks delay due to funding issues, which have now been rectified. Of the 13 candidates 2 of them will be trained as A1 Assessors for the pilot, along with Phil Kemp The Regional Learning and Development Officer, who is acting as Project Manager for the Pilot.

Regulare updates will be published in the forthcoming months.

IAG NVQ Rollout

Rollout of the IAG NVQ will be dependant on the success of the pilot and the funding available at the time of the rollout. However, it is hoped that by March 2010 the pilot will have successfully completed, and the Region will then look to cluster areas to rollout the IAG NVQ in.
